All work and no play, makes for a hungry staff! Northeast Shores staff took time out to taste the freshly prepared food offered at Soul Beautiful.
The fries are freshly cut, golden brown and hot out of the fryer. The catfish is great. Next time we'll try the George Clinton's Atomic Dog Polish Boy with the
Fleetwoods Mac & Cheese or maybe the Leverts Big Throw Down with James Brown's Mashed Potatoes.

Walkthrough of Horseshoe Bar
During a recent meeting of the East 185th Street Block Watch, it became clear that not everyone is aware of the dilapidated condition of the Horseshoe Bar (located at 749 East 185th Street). Several potential developers have viewed the space and determined that the building is too far gone to be repaired. They have commented the building has structural issues and mold issues due to a backed up sewer and leaking roof.
Several concerned residents have shared that they are not convinced the building can't be saved. As such, the property owner (in cooperation with the developers proposing a car wash at the site) are hosting a public walkthrough of the building. Anyone interested in seeing the condition of the property is invited to the building on Friday, August 1st between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Due to the condition of the property, all visitors are required to sign a liability waiver. It may be a good idea to consider bringing your own flashlight and facemask as well.

Safety Fair huge success!
The Safety Fair was a huge success.
Big Momma was there! That's the police SWAT tank.
The fire department brought the "smoke house" for children to climb through and learn how to escape from a building fire.
Police officers roasted hot dogs by the dozens! The auto theft unit held a drawing for automobile anti-theft devices.
Barb won one and as soon as she read the directions, she expects to start using the device.
Kids were given book bags, pencils, coloring books and all kinds of cool stuff.
Blood pressure testing was available for folks along with health tips.
Thanks to Dave's Market for hot dogs and the use of their
parking lot.
Thanks to the Cleveland Police for a fun
afternoon.

Rebuilding Together helps elderly resident!
Shirley Napier was selected by Rebuilding Together Cleveland to receive substantial assistance to improve her home. Ms. Napier has lived in the neighborhood for over 20 years and Northeast Shores recommended she receive assistance from the program.
Rebuilding Together is a nationwide nonprofit volunteer organization set up to provide rehabilitation and repairs to homes owned by individuals and families on a limited income with a focus on the elderly and disabled. This program offers simple home repairs and maintenance that can be physically, if not financially, impossible to handle by the resident. It is designed to bring corporations, neighbors and volunteers together to repair and paint pre-selected homes. This year, Ms. Napier was the one selected.
Stephanie Thomas, Housing Programs Manager for Northeast Shores, met Ms. Napier last year after she was cited from the city. Stephanie nominated her last year but she was not selected, since another one of our nominees was selected that year. So now here is her time to shine!
She will be getting her house painted by volunteers from all over. She was also approved for Weatherization, whereas the work for this has started as well. The Rebuilding Together event occurred on Saturday, June 28 2008.
