The Cleveland Independent Film Festival is coming to Waterloo this weekend! This is a great festival for cinephiles and even just the casual movie watcher.

Still time to sign-up for E185 Parade
Do you have a group or organization you would like to promote????
Do you have a cool car you like to ride around in???
Do you have a business you would like to promote???
Do you have a vehicle that promotes your business???
Are you a politician who would like to shake hands and say hi to the folks who voted for you???
Are you a block watch that would like to have fun as a group???
If you answered yes to any of these questions, please call Denise at Northeast Shores and sign up to be in the Alive on 185 Parade, on May 21st. The parade starts at 11:00 am and the sidewalk sale is immediately after the parade. This parade and day is about letting people know that the East 185th St neighborhood and business district is still a great place to come hang out, eat, shop or just stroll around.
There are also still spots available on the street for the Sidewalk Sale, if you would like a table to promote your group or organization let me know. If you are already signed up, please ask a friend or neighbor to get involved. Please help us show that we are Alive on East 185!!!!!! Reuse those materials!
Arts Collinwood is collecting materials for Debbie Apple-Presser to do another phase of art on the Waterloo Tower. Debbie will begin the installation and then you can help finish it up during the 9th annual Waterloo Arts Fest on June 25th. Meanwhile, we would appreciate your help collecting materials for the project. Please drop off any of the following at Arts Collinwood during the next couple weeks;
plastic milk cartons - gallon and 1/2 gallon
garden hoses
liter pop bottles - especially green
water bottles
bottle caps
large yogurt containers and other plastic of that size.
plastic lids
bottles from laundry detergent - they have color

East 185th Street Cleanup and Planting
Please note all of these plans may be rained out. For some reason, Cleveland is having one of its rainiest seasons ever so it makes it hard to make plans. If you have doubts about what is going on, please call the office at 481-7660 or just look for us on East 185th St. if you see us out, jump in!
Tomorrow May 6th is clean up day on East 185th St. For those of you who have indicated you will help clean up East 185th, here is the tentative schedule for tomorrow. As this is the first year we have had a merchant volunteer to feed us lunch and VASJ is sending a class of students, I am doing this by the seat of my pants. So here goes. We will meet at 11:00 at Muldoon's for lunch. After lunch, we will start at Muldoons cleaning up East 185th St. We will work our way up the street. At 1:00, the VASJ students will start at their end of the street and work their way down the street. Hopefully, we will all meet in the middle with the end result being a nice, clean East 185th Street.
For those of you who have volunteered to adopt a planter box, here are my tentative plans.
On Monday May 9th, mulch will be put down in all of the beds that will take mulch, some of them still have some mulch and some won't hold it in. I will have plants Monday afternoon for those of you who are adopting planter boxes please let me know how you would like to take delivery of your plants. I can drop them off to you or you can pick them up from me. Just let Denise know. The rest of us will start planting Tuesday.

April Beach Clean-up a Rainy Success
The April Beach Clean-up went well, even through some very rainy conditions. Here is an update from Stephen Love, the Volunteer Coordinator for the Euclid Beach Adopt-A-Beach team:
On Saturday April 16th, volunteers from Accenture Management Consulting, college and high school students and neighborhood residents came together to clean and screen the Euclid Beach! This was our second beach cleanup of 2011 and even in the rain and wind volunteers managed to collect an absolute hands down record of over 300 pounds of trash, 80 pounds of which was recycled! Thanks to these hard working volunteers we collected over 850 cigar tips, close to 200 plastic bags bottles and cans and well over 100 plastic and paper bags!
We also celebrated the installation of 3 new trash and 3 new recycling bins at the park installed at the picnic pavilion and at the two stairwell entrances onto the beach. Joining us for the long awaited dedication was Naturalist Carol Ward and Park Manager Jim Siekel from The Cleveland Lakefront State Park along with Brian Friedman from Northeast Shores, April Mather with The Alliance For The Great Lakes and Councilman Polensek.
But this is all only the beginning of a long and active year ahead! With summer around the corner, we are going to need your help! Now more than ever join volunteers just like you this along with 7,000+ other volunteers across the Great Lakes as we tackle some of the toughest months of the year for beach and water quality! Remember, our Great Lakes constitute over 1/5 of the earth's fresh surface water. Let's start by taking care of the beaches in our own community!
Our next beach cleanup will be on Saturday May 21st from 10am-12pm at Euclid Beach Park!
