Waterloo Arts and Entertainment District celebrates its rich past

Yesterday, the intersection of East 152nd and Waterloo Road was named Frankie Yankovic Square. Yankovic, the Polka King, learned how to play polka near that intersection.

The naming of the square feeds right into the rich musical heritage of the street. Just down the street from Frankie Yankovic Square is the Beachland Ballroom, which is the best musical venue in the region.

More information on the naming of the square can be found in this Plain Dealer story featured on the front page of the paper:

Burke Lakefront Airport Meeting

The future of Burke Lakefront Airport has a profound impact on the City of Cleveland and the North Shores Collinwood neighborhood.

Public meetings about what should occur at the airport are occurring soon. Please come out and share your views.

Please see the message below sent by the Cleveland Airport System:

Citizen Input Necessary To Deciding Future of Burke Lakefront Airport

Work has begun on a multi-faceted analysis that will help city officials determine once
and for all the future of Burke Lakefront Airport.

“A critical piece to the analysis is input derived from residents concerning the fate of the airport and property, “says Airport Director Ricky Smith. “It is critical that we hear the thoughts and feelings of the public in regard to this sometimes controversial project.’ Two public workshops have already taken place with one more slated for late August and another in September. Dates will be announced on the airport website: www.clevelandairport.com.

Individuals who are unable to attend any of the workshops may also visit the airport website to keep informed of project updates and/or share their thoughts and views.

Euclid Beach Exhibit rocks gallery!

During the weekend of July 13th, the Arts Collinwood Gallery was filled with an exhibit celebrating the memories of the Euclid Beach Amusement Park. This weekend was selected because it was the 10-year anniversery of when the Carrousel returned to Cleveland.

As many of you know, Northeast Shores is eagerly pushing to have the Carrousel returned to its original location inside Euclid Beach State Park. At the gallery, petitions were signed to convince the Western Reserve Historical Society to work with Northeast Shores and Euclid Beach Park Now on this exciting project.

As you can see from the pictures, the exhibit was well-attended and everyone had a great time.
If you missed this great exhibit, many Euclid Beach items are on display at the Cuyahoga County Fair. The Plain Dealer ran a story about the fair exhibit in today's Plain Dealer. You can read the story at the link below. It is our understanding that petitions will be available for signature at the fair, as well. Please help us in our efforts to return the Carrousel to its original home!
